Mission Man, 16 days in a minivan

Day 15, Friday, November 17th, 2006

I split lunch at Outback with my brother. Total bill was $15. Played some more Okami, had dinner at some local italian pizzeria place that I've forgotten the name of, and went to Annabell's in Akron.

It ended up being a basement gig, and I met a very interesting bartender there named Summer. She was a great balance of funny, intelligent, and deep. We have started communicating on myspace as well, and had some very interesting conversation on there.

The show itself. Well, the headliner asked if he could play first because he had to be home in an hour. I didn't really care, and oddly enough, he had the exact same model of Keyboard I have, a Yamaha PSR-510. I find this odd because I've had the keyboard since I started rapping in 1992, and it must have been several years old then as my dad gave it to me. It's almost as generic as an old Casio, but it has some cool noises. Since we had the exact same keyboard, and I was already soundchecked, I let him use mine. In return, he was kind enough to leave me his used gum on top of my keyboard.

There were about 10 people in the audience when I performed. Summer, my brother, Summer's roommate, Posh Army, and about 3 others. 30 seconds into my first song, "When I Find You," I got heckled. Some guy in the audience yelled "this sucks!" I was at a point in the song were there were no lyrics, so I said "thank you" into the mic. He replied "I'm a musician, and this really sucks." He left shortly thereafter. For maybe the 3rd time in the last 3 years, I performed "Chillin' at the Papa" without a single clap from the audience, though I did hear someone laugh when I was doing the MacCracken skit. All in all, that lead to a low energy set. It shouldn't have. I should have given a great performance to at least be more memorable. After the set, though, I got a lot of positive words, and Summer even bought a CD. Since she was the one who booked me to begin with, I let her give me $5 for it. She then did everything she could to get bar sales up so the bands could get paid. Thanks to her and her friends drinking, and the headliner (who switched to opening) leaving early, I got paid $25. I was ecstatic about that, because I was down to about $5. I slept at my brother's, and got there around 3 am.

My eye looks a little funny because of the enhancement.
