Mission Man, 16 days in a minivan

Day 13, Wednesday, November 16th, 2006

Woke up around 10 am because it was freaking hot in my van. It must have been 70 degrees outside. Back to wearing shorts again.

OH MY GOD! That may have been the best food I've ever had in my life. Wow! Geno's cheesesteak, corner of 9th and Passyunk in Philly. The first bite was incredible, and so was each bith thereafter. $7, and worth twice that. Wow!

Philly graffiti art, mostly on or near South Street.

At around 4 pm, I decided to call Speedway to see where their furthest east location was. They have none in PA, so I counted my change. $16.87. I had about 150 miles left to my gas tank, and enough money to get 176 miles further. That's 326 miles. I was 419 miles from Akron. A difference of 93 miles, or about $9 in gas. If had realized that earlier, I would have skipped the cheesesteak. I put myself in a situation where I NEEDED to sell a CD to get home. Quite stressful to say the least. It also mean I wouldn't be able to eat tomorrow. Oh well. I had a checking account balance of -$246 and I had no credit cards. I thought that maybe I could improve my gas economy by driving 55 instead of 70, and maybe I'd be able to overdraft more.

So, I sold a $10 CD. David Trappa bought one without even hearing my music because I told him my situation. He loved my live set, and he also videotaped it using my digital camera. Those videos are now on YouTube, and up above. I gave my best performance ever of "You've Earned It." I messed up twice, but I'd never given that much energy to the performance before, and I've never danced that much while performing.

I got onto I-476, and found out it was going to be $4 in tolls to get to I-80, so I tried to pay at the pump, and by some miracle (actually, it's called the bank likes overdraft fees), I was able to. That allowed me to buy Wendy's the next day. I got as far as I-80, 20 miles west of 476, and went to sleep. I also wrote a song about the situation, called "Winging It With Clipped Wings" which will be on "31 hours until what?" if that CD gets recorded.

Onto Day 14
