We went to a local bar called Ruben James to watch the Bengals game, but their satellite was out. We didn't find that out until after I had already bought food. We ended up at Hooter's to watch the game. Kirby, our waitress, was a ton of fun. She kept talking smack to Titans fans because they kept saying Peyton Manning was better QB than Tom Brady (Peyton went to Tennessee for college), and she's a huge Pats fan. We weren't a particularly easy table to deal with. Since I had already eaten at RJs, I waited until the 3rd quarter to order chili. We tipped her $7 on a $15 order, though, and I gave her a copy of "Indiependent." She was standing on her tiptoes because Jared and I are tall, but she's about 6' herself.
After the game, I was driving Jared home before leaving for Hartford, CT for an open mic at Sully's Pub, and we got involved in a hit and run. Apparently, some woman rear ended some other woman, and when the victim tried to get the woman's info, she fled the scene, and hit the car in front of us. I stopped, and she hit my mobile apartment. Thankfully, she turned, and just barely clipped the van, so I had no damage. Actually, of the 3 cars she hit, she only bent one guy's bumper. She smashed her own headlight in the process of fleeing the scene. A witness said she was stumbling, and appeared to be drunk. Gratefully, with no damage, I was able to leave after the cop finished talking to me.
One thing I've learned is never judge a bar by it's outside appearance. A lot of my best shows have been at dive bars, and places that look condemned from the outside. I drove by Sully's Pub, and almost just kept driving. It turned out to be bigger than the outside made it look, and the people were great. Vocals were unclear, consistently, because of the design of the room, though. Amanda took the pics there. After the open mic, I started heading to Danbury, CT in search of a rest area on I-84 west. I ended up 15 miles into NY state before I found a gas station, and then turned around to go on I-84 east. As I expected, there was a CT welcome center rest area. Back to sleeping in the van, bedtime 4:45 am.
319 miles driven that day
