I've created this page because my focus until at least April will be local, i.e. Oxford, Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Athens (OH), and Indianapolis. I really want to build my fanbase up, and have some incredible experiences. Since open mic is a shorter version of gigging, the synopsis of each performance will likely be pretty short, though I still expect to put some video and pictures up here sometime. If you're a part of my 2007 open mic experience, and want to be mentioned here, just let me know, and I'll put your comment up in the appropriate place.
I will start doing the open mic at Mad Frog in Cincinnati on February 11th, 2007.
January 10th, 2007 - at Stadium, in Oxford, Ohio. I did an "Intro To My Mind" medley because January 11th, 1997 was the official release date of "Intro To My Mind," and since I went on after midnight, "Intro To My Mind" was officially 10 years old. I had a good time, and got a good response. There were, I'm guessing 30-40 people in attendance.
January 17th, 2007 - at Stadium, this time the show was videotaped, and I messed up pretty bad on "You've Earned It." Also, the videographer had some problems, which caused not all of the "Birthday Song" to get recorded. I plan on getting video up on here when it's ready, so keep an eye out. There were only about 15 people in attendance to see the rare performance of "Birthday Song," which I now really only perform on my birthday, or if there's a good friend in the audience who's having a birthday, I'll perform it for them. My birthday was January 19th; hence the birthday theme. I also performed "Wanna Get Down."
January 24th, 2007 - Stadium, I saw Chris Lee and Jen play. I actually followed them up. I have to say, I don't like country music, but this girl could sing, and I found myself clapping and getting into it. I played the "hits." I did "Playin' a Little Basketball," "Weightliftin' Jam," and "Chillin' at the Papa." I had a sweatsuit on over my jeans for the "Weightliftin' Jam" and "Playin'..." and had my PJs uniform on for "Chillin' at the Papa." I was expecting it to be recorded, but it wasn't. I gave away about 60 demos, and plan on giving away CDs at each and every performance because the crowd is what makes performing truly special.
January 31st, 2007 - I was going to play "You've Earned It," "Glimpse of a Dream," and "Love With Passion and Live With Love" to have an Indiependent/live bass playing theme. I'll try to have new themes each week. The open mic started late, though, so I ended up not using the bass, and just did "Prime Time Players" and "You've Earned It."
February 7th, 2007 - I performed the hits, "Chillin' at the Papa," "Playin' a Little Basketball," and "Weightliftin' Jam." My mind must have been frozen from the single digit temperatures and subzero wind chills though, because I forgot how the first verse of "Weightliftin' Jam" started. The song's over 10 years old, and I never practice it, but I've performed it so many times that I don't need to. It was definitely the smallest crowd at open mic this semester, and probably the smallest Stadium open mic crowd I've ever performed for.
February 11th, 2007 - First open mic at the Mad Frog since it moved to Sundays. I'll be playing the hits because I should properly reintroduce myself to the Mad Frog, and things will go from there.
Februrary 14th, 2007- last Stadium open mic until March 21st because they're having Battle of the Bands there February 21st, 28th, and March 7th, and March 14th is spring break. I'll perform "When I Find You" because it's Valentine's Day, and then "You've Earned It," and I still haven't decided what the third song's going to be. It needs to be short since "When I Find You" is 6 minutes long.
